Nathaniel Antwan Curry

Nathaniel Antwan Curry was born on September 30, 1975, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Chatmon and Dianna Curry. “Poonie” as he was affectionately called attended Manor High School, and during his childhood, Nathaniel could be found playing on various baseball fields throughout the Hampton Roads area as he was a part of the Charles Pete Little League Team. His dreams and aspirations were to become a professional baseball player and often spoke about if he would have just made the transition to move to Washington D.C. when he was considered that this dream would have become reality. That desire, then became a weight on him, which landed him in trouble in his earlier age. While this weight did not remain his stopping place, Nathaniel gained a lot of wisdom and knowledge while being secluded from society. During this time, he could be found reading many books, attending various classes, and expanding his passion to write and draw. Nathaniel wrote his first (unpublished) hood novel while in seclusion called “P-City” this 32-chapter book was the start of his author characteristics being birthed. Later, he would acquire the desire to become a barber. Nathaniel would cut the heads of various inmates while in seclusion and upon release, he would move on to open his first barber shop, there you could find Nathaniel servicing individuals worldwide. Nathaniel’s health took a decline in 2018 and while doctors were ready to give up on him during that time, God stepped in and took control, it was not his time to go. After winning the battle from his 1st health scare, Nathaniel continued with his barbering skills and attended many speaking engagements. In 2021 he joined Tonya in holy matrimony, this union blessed him with two daughters and a granddaughter, who was the apple of his eye. While barbering Nathaniel began to minister and touch lives of the many heads that he serviced, which led him to, his own non-profit organization, mentoring the youth of various schools, cities, communities and organizations such as Big Homies, Cutz, etc. In 2022 he dedicated his life to Christ. He became a member of The Healing Temple, under the leadership of Bishop Keith L. Curry. Under this leadership, the anointing of God continued his spiritual enhancement, and he was filled with the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. You could find Nathaniel being the watchmen on the wall as he secured the church and his Bishop. Nathaniel did not play about the protection of those he loved, and he made it known repeatedly. In 2023, Nathaniel decided to further his cosmetology education and enrolled in Asher Institute of Hampton, where he obtained his barber instructor license. In 2025 he was ordained as Deacon of The Healing Temple and appointed Pastor over The Healing Temple Outreach Ministry for the Virginia 4th Jurisdiction. His connection to Bishop Keith L. Curry (cousin) was like none other, and his desire was to protect and serve this man of God and ensure that the weight of the ministry did not rest on his shoulders alone. In 2026, Nathaniel’s dream to become a published author allowed him to connect with Red Pen Edits and Consulting, LLC to birth out his soon to be released book “Broken But Chosen: The Redemption Story of Nathaniel Curry”. Proceeding him in death was Nathaniel Chatmon (Father), James E. Curry, Sr. (Maternal Grandfather), Irene Chatmon (Paternal Grandmother), James E. Curry Jr. “Butch” (Uncle), James Chatmon (Uncle), Irene Chatmon (Aunt), Alice Chatmon (Aunt), Lawrence Chatmon (Uncle) and Richard Chatmon (Uncle). Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Tonya L. Curry of Portsmouth, Virginia. Two daughters Donya’ Johnson and Alesia Gibbs of Chesapeake, Virginia one granddaughter Nova Williams of Chesapeake, Virginia. Mother, Dianna Curry, Grandmother, Irene Curry, both of Portsmouth, Virginia. Sister, Dinat Curry (Antione) of Portsmouth, Virginia. Brother, Charles Curry (Natasha) of Chesapeake, Virginia. Uncle, Dale Curry (Michelle) of Portsmouth, Virginia. Aunts, Dorthea Curry of Washington D.C., Laura Chatmon of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Catherine Stewart of New Jersey, Mother-In-Love, Sandra Hooper, Portsmouth, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will truly miss him.
